Revisiting the French-Indochina War in Greyscale

Has it really been five years since I've last worked on this project? Feels like yesterday really. I've never completely forgotten about the project and always intended to get back to it. But frankly I was intimidated by painting camouflage using this technique. I wasn't quite happy with my first take, but never quite could put my finger on the why. But when our beloved Over-Snowlord let me choose one of three tasks in order to claim the price for climbing SnowLord's Peak I decided to finally man up and tackle this particular problem.

First Greyscale French Paratroopers for Indochina

Finally I've pulled the finger out and got going on the Paratroopers for my French Indochina war project in Greyscale. To be honest it really proofed to be a quite daunting and especially different task to try to emulate camo patterns in Greyscale compared to the rather straight forward Viet Minh.

I'm still recovering from a nasty flu which knocked me out for over a week. While being quite pleased with my progress over the Challenge so far I find it always rather hard to get the juices flowing again once I hit the proverbial wall.

First of all my apologies for not having commented on your blogs lately. A nasty flu has knocked me out cold and while I was following your progress I simply didn't feel like trying to make 'clever' sounding comments while the eyes hurt and the head spun.
But the flu has ebbed away and I'm back at the brushes again and I'll comment on your blogs again like the complete smart ass I am ;-)

Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge: Not "Dorian Gray" Entry Fee Figure (20 points)

I'm a bit behind in my blogging at the moment but as Curt's infamous Painting Challenge has begun last week most of my hobby time is concentrated on painting like a maniac... not that it would make any difference in output anyway.

So here's my first entry to the Challenge:

To bring myself and my brushes up to operating temperature for this years challenge I wanted to stay within the theme of the challenge with my first submission.

Ever since Curt has announced this years topic I knew what I wanted to do for the Entry Fee figure. Back then when West Wind did their "Empire of the Dead" Kickstarter I almost joined in because of the dark and menacing look of the Steampunk world they created which I liked a lot. But as I had (and still have) much too many distractions on my table I passed on the chance and said to myself that one day I could still paint the one or other figure.

So when looking for suitable figures I knew it had to be something from that range and indeed I found a figure which to my mind perfectly matches Curt's description of the to be Entry Fee figure.

So I present to you Mr. Dorian aka as (Not) Dorian Gray.

First Indochina in Greyscale and the 5th Analogue Hobbies Annual Painting Challenge

Recently I mentioned a secret project I'm working on and now is time to show it off. Inspired by Curts amazing "Great War in Greyscale" project as well as his take on the "First Indochina War" I decided to combine both projects into one. But what was still missing was the impetus to get going.
