Fall of the western Empire 17: New frankish warriors

Well, it's been a while since I wrote my last post and frankly I really didn't paint that much during the last few weeks.
On the one hand this had something to do with the blistering heat we were to 'enjoy' for a couple of weeks...

... and on the other hand I simply suffered a serious attack of lack of motivation again. With quite some festivities both private and occupationally there was even less interest in picking up the brushes again.

With the heatwave ebbing away (for the moment at least) I forced myself to the painting table again. Recently I ordered some small items from my favourite online wargames dealer and couldn't resist to include some figures in the order. I'm a little proud as these were the first figures I commercially acquired since TACTICA in late February so I decided to give these a lick of paint.

These are arthurian characters from the superb Musketeer line of late Roman/ romano-british figures. Instead of using them alongside my Late Roman army I decided to paint them up for use in my slowly (really, really slowly) growing force of frankish raiders. As they really don't look too romanised I think they definitely fit in well with the Germans.

First up is Geofreth, my new frankish chieftain:

Followed by his closest retainers:

And at last a group shot amongst the other frankish warriors.

I hope you enjoyed and thanks for watching.

  3. Very skilled painting, incredibly smooth washing/highlighting. And Like Christopher said, they really look the part on that Impetus base.

Might I get similar results if I turn up the heat in my painting room and wait for my painting motivation to leave? ;-)

These Musketeer miniatures are excellent sculpts and very characterful indeed, but you're paintjob finally crowned their appearance.
