9. SS "Hohenstaufen" - Sd.Kfz. 251/3 Ausf. D

Todays offering is probably a little unusual in that it would have little use in a wargame except for maybe a mission specific objective or the like. But as I'm a big fan of such things, especially when they're almost little vignettes in themselves, I got me one of those clever upgrade sprues from Rubicon Models to convert a standard Halftrack into a mittlerer Kommandopanzerfagen communications vehicle.

The kit(s) went together smoothly but with the benefit of hindsight I should have painted the radio setbefore gluing it in position... one should think I'd have learned my lesson by now.
Anyway, apart from that, painting was straight forward using the Real Color range of paints by AK Interactive.

The crew were a little harder to paint, due to the very realistic proportions which first need some getting used to. Still I'd like to think they came out rather well and really add to the overall look of the vehicle

Thanks for viewing and hopefully till next time!

  2. Lovely battle hardened vehicle and a great job on painting up the plastic figures which always seem harder to paint that metal one.
    cheers John

  3. Looks fantastic, will make a great objective/jump-off/terrain piece for any game where it's not being used as a command track.

  6. Your work on the figurines is impressive as always. I love the weathering on the vehicle's armor plating too. It looks so realistic, even at a small scale.
